Superfast AI Newsletter

Welcome to your weekly breakdown of AI... super fast.

Thanks for checking out Superfast AI. If you’d like to receive updates in your inbox, please consider subscribing to the free newsletter below. Other than that, let’s dive in.

AI is moving faster than ever. More and more people are looking to break into the industry but find that… AI is intimidating. Many seasoned operators who would otherwise jump into the space hesitate because the field is highly technical. What is back-propagation? Or the attention mechanism? How do I fine-tune GPT-3 to build amazing products? These, and many other questions, I hope to answer through this weekly newsletter, Superfast AI.

Hi everyone, and welcome! I'm excited to introduce you to my new newsletter, Superfast AI. This newsletter will have a few sections: News, Concepts, Resources and a Fun/Random section. I'm excited to start writing for an audience of operators, investors and founders who are interested in learning about AI. Specifically, this newsletter is curated for folks who are new to the industry, or looking to break into it for the first time. This newsletter comes out every Sunday and will cover the top trending stories in AI.

1. A little about me

I’m currently a product operations manager at a data labeling startup, Surge AI. We build datasets for ML teams. You can check out more about Surge AI here. I started on this newsletter journey because there are a lot of concepts in AI that are completely new to me: transformers, supervised training, diffusion models… to name just a few. Many of these concepts seem fundamental to my understanding of products in the ML space, and yet I’ve struggled to find easily approachable resources that don’t require in-depth knowledge of coding, math or statistics. I don’t have much of a background in any of those subjects, but I think there is a way to explore these concepts and build amazing products without a deep expertise in the technical research that backs them.

2. Why this, why now

AI is moving at an incredible pace, and it is becoming increasingly important in the development of future technology. My mission with this newsletter is to make AI more available to those who don't have an extensive technical background so that more people have the opportunity to enter the field. I strongly believe that AI will change the way we live, work, and play in the near future. To create great technology, it takes a diversity of people with different abilities, values, and interests. If AI is going to be present in every aspect of our lives, we need the best minds working on it to ensure that it benefits us. By providing concise, easy-to-understand articles and resources, I hope to help these individuals stay ahead of the curve and be informed about the progress made in AI.

I’m excited about this newsletter for two reasons. 1) It’s a forcing function that will encourage me to learn more about AI on a daily basis. It’s also a test of my learnings. As the old adage goes: one of the best ways to learn something is to explain it to someone else. 2) It’s a path to building a community of AI enthusiasts that shares opportunities, resources and inspiration with one another. A friend of mine, KP, who is the self-proclaimed “Build-In-Public Guy”, writes about how communities help you expand your luck-circle. Your luck is a function of the opportunities available to you, which is only as big as the networks you have. Engaging with a community around a shared interest expands the set of opportunities that become available to you. These opportunities could be anything from finding a new dream job, to connecting with a lead investor for your startup, to making a new friend for life. The larger your community network is, the greater number of touch-points you’ll have for serendipitous “luck”. So, thank you for joining me on this journey! Let’s generate some luck together.
